All about Holland Lops

Why Holland Lops

People always ask me, "Of all the rabbit breeds out there, why did you choose to breed Holland Lops?"
Similarily, many people don't know what type of rabbit they want, and ask me why they should also choose Holland Lops!

Let me tell you, I LOVE this breed. I am not just hyping them up, or making them sound amazing to sell them. If I didn't love them, I would just switch breeds.

I fell in love with Holland Lops when I was 13! Right away I knew I loved the look of those floppy ears! Of course, there were alot of breeds to choose from that had floppy ears and so I began my research! There are five Lop eared breeds recognized by the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeding Association); Mini lop, French lop, American fuzzy lop, English lop and Holland lop. American Fuzzy lops and Holland lops are the only two Lop eared breeds that carry the dwarf gene. This means they are the smallest of the lop eared breeds at a top weight of 4 lbs. I love small rabbits; they are easy to hold, easy to house, and simply just adorable.  Their size makes them a great indoor pet as well as great for kids.

It's not just their size that got me hooked on them. Their personality is amazing. Hollands are known for their docile, gentle, and sweet nature. Holland lops are also incredibly curious and friendly. If comfortable, they will often approach you for pets and snuggles. They are intelligent and if loved and treated well are a fabulous companion.

I love the variety of colours that Holland lops carry and the potential in their genes for remarkable colours.

To be completely honest, one of the biggest things I like about Holland Lops is that I find the adults adorable. Of course, all baby bunnies are cute, but it didn't just melt my heart when I saw any old Adult Rabbit. It was different with Holland Lops. Even as adults they would melt my heart. Their flattened noses, fluffy crown above their ears, their small size, it all made me so happy inside. This was incredibly important to me. Rabbits only stay small for so long so finding the adults cute and lovable, especially as a breeder, but for anyone, is really important.

Heres a few more quick and awesome things about Holland Lops
-wide variety in colours (especially compared to some other breeds). This makes getting a unique looking bun easier, and choosing the colour of your bun is so fun!
-their fur is dense and short, which makes grooming easy and quick. Some breeds require intensive and weekly grooming, but holland lops are low maintenance when it comes to their fur (and everything else really)
-Holland Lops have a lifespan of 7-14 years, which is relatively long for a bunny
-Being a smaller sized rabbit, they eat less pellets/go through less feed than a large breed
